Glabella Frown Lines
Overview of the surgery:
Glabella Frown lines are the most common reasons for a Botox procedure. The folds in this area are caused by vertically oriented fibers which are found on the glabellar area. When treating Glabellar frown lines, about 5 sites are to be administered with the toxin. About 25 units are used for all five sites. One is injected in the corrugator muscle and the other four are distributed around and on the sides of this muscle. Initially, the patient will be asked to frown and scowl so the target muscles can be palpated by the Botox therapist. The injections are then administered to various sites. The depth of injection is usually different for every individual. An EMG may also be necessary to spot the right site for injection. The same instructions will be given by the doctor. Bending over should not be done until four hours after the procedure. You are also asking to rest in an upright position to avoid the medication from being absorbed by other muscles.
Duration of the operation:
Botox procedure is done approximately 30 minutes
Post operative care:
A patient is required to rest without lying down in the first 2 hours after the treatment. Exercising or any strenuous activity is also prohibited during this period. A patient is also advised to avoid touching the treated area for the first 4 hours after the treatment. Results last for around 3 to 6 months. Re-injection of Botox is required to maintain the desired appearance. Results can be seen at 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment.
Recovery period:
After Botox injection, there is no downtime needed for the recovery period. Patients can go about their daily routine immediately after the procedure.
Possible risks and complications:
There are very minimal, and often rare, risks and side effects associated with Botox. Headache, flu-like symptoms, temporary redness, swelling, tiny pinching sensations and bruising are the most common side effects that usually fade over time. No fatal systemic side effects have been reported from locally administering Botox injections for facial wrinkles.
Anesthesia use: Local anesthesia
Hospital admission:
This procedure may be performed in the cosmetic surgeon’s office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or at a hospital. This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis
Preparation before Surgery
The surgeon will educate you with the procedure. This procedure is very quick and simple; there isn’t much that a patient must do to prepare for surgery.
- Assessment of the medical history (any allergies, serious medical condition and all medications taken both prescribed and non-prescribed), physical examination, and laboratory tests will be performed during consultation.
- Blood and urine samples will be collected for routine preoperative laboratory tests.
- Smoking must be avoided for about 3-4 weeks prior to surgery, as nicotine interferes with circulation and will greatly affect healing process.
- You will likely to be asked to stop drinking alcohol, a week before the surgery and throughout your recovery period.
- Avoid taking any medications such as hormones, anticoagulants, anabolic steroids and supplements at least 4-6 weeks to prevent complicating medical factors prior to surgery. Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.
- The patient only required to undergo a test to ensure that they are not allergic to Botox. If the result is negative the patient is qualified to receive injections.

Total Facelift
Overview of the surgery:
Total Facelift also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure to reduce sagging skin and lines by removing excess skin and fat, and tightening muscles
The incision of full facelift will begin above the hairline at the temple area, brought in front of the ear and looping behind the ear lobe and along the lower scalp. In full face lift the neck and face will be tightened altogether. The exact placement of incisions is determined upon the actual examination of facial structure. The patient may opt to do chin liposuction to enhance the result.
Duration of the operation:
A full facelift should take anywhere from 3 – 7 hours, depending on the patients requirements
Post operative care:
After the surgery, a patient will have to use cold compress for 2 days and avoid lying with the cheeks in contact with bed or pillow for 1 month to prevent hematoma formation. Some numbness may persist for 3-6 months. The patient should avoid any strenuous activities for at least 4-6 weeks following surgery. This will give the body ample time to adjust as it continues on the healing process.
Recovery period:
Facelift sutures are removed between 5-7 days after surgery, and at this point swelling and bruising are becoming minimal. Makeup can usually be applied, and patients will start to resume some of their activities.
Possible risk and complications:
Full facelift surgery is a very common procedure and complications are rare, but can happen. This includes prominent, red scars, bleeding under the skin, infection, hair loss surrounding the scars, nerve damage, numbness, asymmetrical features and blood clotting.
Anesthesia use:
You may opt for either local or general anesthesia
Hospital admission:
This procedure may be performed in the cosmetic surgeon’s office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or at a hospital. This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis
Preparation before Surgery

Mid-Facelift
Overview of the surgery:
Mid facelift is a plastic surgery procedure that restores a smooth, youthful look to the lower eyelids and cheeks. During a mid face lift, small, deep incisions are made in the muscle tissue of the face. If the surgeon so chooses, an endoscope (a small, camera-like device) is inserted through the incisions to view the procedure internally. Once the incisions are made, the doctor adjusts the fat and muscle tissue, pulling up the middle of the face to smooth and tighten the skin. Finally, the incisions are sutured.
Duration of the operation:
The midfacelift usually takes around 1 hour.
Post operative care:
Although discomfort should be minimal immediately following face lift surgery, patients will not be in a condition to drive home. Their head will be bandaged and they may still be experiencing the effects of anesthesia. They should therefore arrange for transportation to and from the treatment center with a friend or family member. During the week following face lift surgery, they should also plan on maintaining a relatively light schedule. Often, having someone to help with everyday activities such as cooking and cleaning can make the recovery period much easier.
Recovery period:
Most patients can return to work from a mid face lift in 10 days to two weeks. For the first few days or weeks, depending on your procedure, only walking and mild stretching are appropriate physical activities. Vigorous exercise, heavy housework, and sexual activity should be avoided for at least the initial two weeks after surgery. Alcohol, saunas, and steam rooms should be avoided for several months. During the face lift recovery period, extra rest is very important to promote proper healing.
Possible risks and complications:
Aside from the risks inherent in any surgical procedure, risks specific to face lift surgery include:
· Injury to the nerves that control facial muscles - this is usually temporary.
· Problems with healing of the skin - this is common for patients who smoke.
· Scarring - there will be some scarring, although the surgeon will always try to hide the face lift scars.
· Crust on the incisions - this will be temporary.
· Numbness or tingling around the incision areas - this should be temporary.
· Skin or hair loss - this is rare.
· Skin discoloration - this is a rare condition that can continue for several months.
Some of the most common postoperative face lift complications are:
· Reaction to the anesthesia – some face lift patients experience nausea and general sickness after receiving anesthesia; this is a short-lasting side effect and usually diminishes completely after a few hours.
· Hematoma – if bleeding occurs under the skin, a hematoma can develop, leaving the area painfully swollen; an operation is required to stop the flow and remove the blood.
· Bleeding – although some light, postoperative bleeding is normal, uncontrolled bleeding is dangerous and can lead to painful hematomas.
· Infection – typically occurring in a specific area, symptoms of infection are swelling, sensitivity, redness, and localized heat. Unless it is severe, an infection can be relieved with antibiotics.
Anesthesia use:
Mid face lift surgery procedures can be performed using local anesthesia although general anesthesia is also an option. During more intensive procedures, general anesthesia may be required.
Hospital admission:
This procedure may be performed in the cosmetic surgeon’s office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or at a hospital. This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis
Preparation before Surgery
- Assessment of the medical history (any allergies, serious medical condition and all medications taken both prescribed and non-prescribed), physical examination, and laboratory tests will be performed during consultation.

- Hair should be washed thoroughly the day before face lift surgery to minimize the risk of infection. Additionally, alcohol should be avoided the night prior to the procedure.
- Patients should also make sure to get a good night’s sleep, since it is important to be well rested during face lift surgery. Some cosmetic surgeons may give patients additional instructions.

Nasolabial Folds Surgery
Overview of the surgery:
The nasolabial folds also known as marionette lines or smile lines, run from the nose to the corner of the mouth. They separate the cheeks from the upper lip. As we age, the creases formed in the nasolabial folds can become more prominent due to several factors, such as excess skin, thinning of skin, and ptosis or drooping of cheek fat. That’s why nasolabial folds are the areas of the face targeted by facial anti aging surgery.
The surgeon will inject the area with local anesthesia and excise the nasolabial fold, and then detached the sagging skin and cheek from the face. The loosened skin and cheek fat pad are then pulled upward and re-suture the area up with hairline sutures.
Duration of the operation:
This usually only takes 30 minute to1 hour.
Post operative care:
Upon waking up in the recovery room, you may be groggy from the anesthetics and/or oral medications. You will have to sleep on two pillows to keep your head elevated. There may be some degree of bruising and swelling that will subside gradually. You must not excessively speak or animate the face so that the sutures are not disturbed and excess scar tissue does not form. You should be able to alleviate discomfort with your prescribed pain medications. Take those antibiotics on time. Be careful not to bend over or lift heavy objects. And be careful not to raise the blood pressure for at least 3 weeks as this could cause internal bleeding at your treatment area. Do not participate in contact sports for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
Recovery period:
You can go back to work within two weeks. You must sleep with your head elevated for about two weeks to help alleviate swelling. Sutures will be removed after five to seven days. The staples in your scalp, if there are any, won't be removed until around day 10 because your scalp takes longer to heal.
Possible risk and complications:
Most facelifts are performed without complications but all forms of cosmetic surgery procedure carry some degree of risk. Some complications may include excessive pain, infection, hematoma, redness, elevated temperature, scarring, asymmetry and general dissatisfaction. If these occur, contact your surgeon immediately.
Anesthesia use:
Patients are usually under local anesthesia, meaning they will be awake but drowsy and insensitive to pain.
Hospital admission:
The Nasolabial fold correction procedure may be performed in the cosmetic surgeon’s office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or at a hospital. This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis.
Preparation before Surgery:
- Assessment of the medical history (any allergies, serious medical condition and all medications taken both prescribed and non-prescribed), physical examination, and laboratory tests will be performed during consultation.
- Blood and urine samples will be collected for routine preoperative laboratory tests.
- Smoking must be avoided for about 3-4 weeks prior to surgery, as nicotine interferes with circulation and will greatly affect healing process.

Lateral Eyebrow Lift
Overview of the surgery:
Lateral Eyebrow Lift corrects the drooping of the outer brow line. This technique is also known as a temporal brow lift, and addresses sagging around the outside of the eyebrow almost exclusively. Lateral brow lifts can be performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty or other procedures.
During a lateral brow lift, incisions are placed in the hairline at the temples towards the sides of the face. The lateral brow lift removes excess skin, lifting the outer corners of the forehead. Unlike a traditional brow lift, a lateral brow lift will not raise the middle of the brow, but it will somewhat alleviate crow's feet (the creasing at the outer corners of the eyes). Lateral brow lifts are ideally suited to prospective patients who are only concerned with the drooping of the ends of the eyebrow.
Duration of the operation:
The procedure normally takes about 20-30 minutes.
Post operative care:
When your procedure is completed, your forehead may be taped and your head may be loosely wrapped with a soft compressive dressing usually for 1-2 days to minimize swelling and bruising. A thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin. You may experience little or no postoperative pain for the first few days. Analgesic medications for pain and antibiotics to prevent infection will be prescribed.
Recovery Period:
Swelling in the eyelids can be profound but is usually short lived. Most patients can go back to work in about a week. Sutures or staples maybe remove at 5-7 days post op.
Possible risk and complications:
Complications are rare; however, there are risks associated with any medical procedure. Some patients may not be able to move their eyebrows or forehead. Scar formation and permanent hair loss within the scar area may occur. Permanent lack of sensation at the incision line is also a rare complication. Infection, bleeding, and other minor complications are possible.
Anesthesia use:
Most brow lifts are performed under local anesthesia with sedation.
Hospital admission:
Lateral Brow Lift can be performed on an out patient basis or in the hospital under local or general anesthesia. You and your surgeon will discuss preferences.
Preparation before Surgery:
- Assessment of the medical history (any allergies, serious medical condition and all medications taken both prescribed and non-prescribed), physical examination, and laboratory tests will be performed during consultation.

Neck Lift
Overview of the surgery:
Neck lift is a minor surgical procedure that improves the appearance of a patient’s neck by removing excess skin and tightening the muscles underneath.
The doctor then usually makes small incisions behind the ears and underneath the patient’s chin, through which most of the surgery will be done. Reshaping the neck is a complicated process, and the surgeon will likely use a variety of methods to achieve the best possible result. The complexity of neck lift surgery means that it should only be trusted to an experienced, knowledgeable doctor.
Duration of the operation:
The surgery takes 1-2 hour’s average.
Post operative care:
Typically, neck lift surgery involves rapid recovery, though patients are advised to stay in bed for a few days after the surgery and avoid excess movement. Some may experience minor bruising and swelling, but these should subside within a week and should not be severe. Most doctors will have patients wear a compression bandage for about a week after the procedure to promote healing, and patients are advised to monitor their condition carefully for any complications arising from the surgery. Wear button-down shirt, so you don’t have to pull a shirt over your head, which could disturb the bandages.
Recovery period:
Most people can return to work in 10 to14 days. If you participate in other sports or are physically active, you will have to wait at least three weeks.
Possible risk and complications:
There are risks with any kind of surgery, and cosmetic procedures are no exception. In choosing to undergo a neck lift, the patient risks infection and possible allergic reaction to the anesthesia; the patient may also experience excessive scarring from the neck lift and other such complications. The occurrence of these effects is very rare, however, and can be reduced further with the choice of an experienced doctor. The patient should be sure to tell his or her doctor about any existing medical condition or medication being taken.
Anesthesia use:
Neck lift will be done under General Anesthesia.
- Most people are advised to eat healthily, because the body will need nutrients to heal.
